International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is the most popular English language proficiency test that tests Higher education and international migration. IELTS has over 10,000 organisations that believe in it all over the world, and therefore, whenever you take the test, you are assured that your test is accepted in most places of study, places of employment, governments and professional associations in the world.
Being one of the first people to introduce four skills English language testing 30 years ago, IELTS remains the standard in English language testing to date. Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom use IELTS to process immigration applications of their governments.
Two IELTS test options exist these are IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. Whatever it is that you want to do must then determine the test that you will use.
IELTS has been constructed by some of the most prominent language testing scholars in the world, and it will examine the entire spectrum of English talents they need to achieve success with your job or study placement in a foreign country.
IELTS is used to assess the knowledge of English among non-native speakers who want to study, work or migrate to an English-speaking country.
The key point of focus is to assess the ability of an individual to communicate using English in different real-life situations.
The test is designed to evaluate four major language skills, which include: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking; they are based on Academic or General Training requirements.

Each part of the test will be rated out of 1 to 9, i.e., Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. IELTS has the highest score of 9 and the lowest score is 1; this is because every score represents the various levels of English users.
The total score of your band is calculated by the average score of the four test elements (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking). Each component has an equal weighted score. Your total band score is rounded to the whole band or half-band.
Both IELTS Listening and Reading sections contain 40 questions. Each correct answer receives one mark, making the highest possible raw score 40 for each component.
Raw scores are converted into band scores ranging from Band 1 to Band 9, as shown in official IELTS conversion tables.
In marking the Writing and Speaking parts of the test, examination criteria are detailed assessment instructions giving described performance in writing and spoken English at every one of the 9 IELTS bands.
Examiners give a band score on each of four areas known as criterion areas: Task Achievement (Task 1), Task Response (Task 2), Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Accuracy and Range. The four criteria are weighted equally.
Examiners provide a band score on each of the four areas of criterion: Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Diversity and Accuracy, and Pronunciation. The four criteria are equally balanced.
Each component is weighted equally, and the final score is rounded to the nearest whole or half band.
Assessment criteria are used by examiners to award a band mark to every four criteria:
Task Achievement (in task 1), task response (in task 2).
Coherence and Cohesion
Lexical Resource
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
The weighted criteria are equal, and the average of the scores in the task is the average score.
Speaking entails examiners giving a band score based on each of four criteria:
Fluency and Coherence
Lexical Resource
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
